Alice Lillie's Statement to President Bush

The official war death count among American servicepeople in Iraq is 2,000. President Bush said this sacrifice was "worth it."

EXCUSE ME, MR. PRESIDENT, BUT THAT IS NOT YOUR CALL.
WHETHER THE LOSS OF A LIFE FOR THIS WAR IS WORTH IT CAN ONLY BE DETERMINED BY THE OWNER OF THAT LIFE, THE PERSON WHO DIED.

Each of those 2,000 was a human being. An individual.
He or she had hopes, dreams, a family ... a LIFE!
Just like you.
We do not honor these individuals by sending more to their deaths.

WE MUST END THIS WAR RIGHT NOW.

IT WAS A GRAVE MISTAKE TO ELECT YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THEN A WORSE ONE TO ALLOW YOU TO PROSECUTE THIS ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL WAR.

You are absolutely right, Alice.
Bush is a horrible president, and the government is even worse than it was under the slimy Clinton.

Technically, of course, we have an all volunteer force, but it would be better if we had no standing army at all, and if a President wanted to go to war, they would have to get volunteers for each conflict they hoped to enter. Then the soldiers themselves would be able to determine if our military endeavors are "worth it" or not. But then our politicians know that if we truly had volunteer forces, they would not be able to pursue the policies we do. We would have to return to Washington's vision of trade for all and alliances with none. No modern politician wants that though.

At this point I think I should have mentioned that the same applies to Iraqis killed as a result of the war. Their lives are no less valuable than the lives of American soldiers.

There were children killed. That is what galls me the most. They are innocent and helpless.
